1-Hour Online DnD Sessions Coming Soon

Dungeon Marches

Because I don’t have enough on my plate already, I thought I would create a mega-dungeon crawl that will be explored one-hour at a time.

I am planning to run a mega-dungeon crawl using Old School Essentials as the rules, with one-hour online sessions via Discord.

I call it Dungeon Marches.

This will be similar to a West Marches idea of an open table – that is, having any player who shows up for a session be able to play that session without any other commitment necessary.

Each player can play in as many sessions as they like (see below for more information on sessions).

No Commitment

There is no commitment from you as a player to stick with the game. The open table nature of it means you can play whatever sessions you can make it to.

Contrivance

To facilitate multiple characters in a dungeon crawl that will probably change from session to session, I have devised an in-game reason for why characters were there one session, but gone the next.

When a character, who was in a previous session, doesn’t attend the next session, their character is teleported out of the dungeon and into a forest within a 1-mile radius of the dungeon.

This forest has a permanent confusion ritual cast on it which means characters just wonder around, lost until they play the next session, when they are teleported back into the dungeon, to where the current party is located.

From the character’s perspective, they are just being teleported in and out randomly.

Goals

Each player may select a goal for their character, which is rolled randomly on a table I have created. This is to give each character a simple reason to be in the dungeon.

This could be as simple as find the Sacred artifact, or slay the Big Beast.

Number of Characters

Each player can create any number of PCs, and it is recommended you create three up front due to death or injury (time recovering), or just to have a good selection of characters to choose from.

This will also make it so you can re-join the session immediately if your character does die, as your new character is teleported into the dungeon.

When Will This Start?

I am looking at around November or December, 2024 (I need time to get my d12 Monthly Annual completed first).

Platform Used

I will be using Discord for voice and Theatre of the Mind (TotM) to facilitate a quick gaming experience. No VTTs will be used so you don’t have to learn anything new.

How Will I Know When Sessions Run?

I will be setting up a Google calendar you will be able to see with the scheduled settings in it, plus I will announce sessions randomly when I have the time and desire.

The calendar will be accessed via this website. Notifications for random sessions will be announced via Discord, and I may set up a mailing list as well.

My GMing Style

Not everyone likes to play at every (virtual) table, so you can read about how I love to play D&D and see if it is for you.

How Do I Sign Up?

Message me using the form below and I will add you to the list.

You may be added to an email list to alert you to new sessions. It won't be used for any other reason.
I will send you an invite to my Discord server.

Any Other Questions?

Let me know in the comments below if you have any other questions.

While You’re Here…

Since 2021 I have been publishing d12 Monthly, a monthly zine, which has a ton of articles for any edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

Printed copies are available in my store. The PDF is available on DriveThruRPG and you can get both, plus support my work, via my Patreon.

I will also be releasing some more products in the near future.

Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or my contact page any time.
