There are so many excellent indie table-top roleplaying games and supplements out there – ones that don’t get a lot of press or love.
That’s where this new series of posts comes in.
I want to use the platform I have to raise those indie boats a little higher.
I will be list three indie products for under $3 for all you fans of indie TTRPGs.
Why under $3?
I may add some other versions of this with higher-priced supplements, but $3 seems like a good place for affordability, and for some income for the creators.
Let me know in the comments below if you want to see more of these, or some at different price points.
d30 DM Companion
by New Big Dragon Games Unlimited
The d30 DM Companion is an indispensable aid for any OSR DM that wants to keep on top of his game and ahead of his players. Whether stocking a dungeon or just struggling to keep up with players, this compilation of d30-based mechanics, charts, and tables will support and simplify the role of the DM/GM at the tabletop. Inside these 30-something pages you’ll find a host of d30-based resources for quickly creating characters and stocking dungeons.
My Take
I love these d30 supplements (I use the d30 Sandbox Companion all the time), but this is a classic that needs to be in every GMs and solo roleplayer’s kit. You will find a host of tables that will be indispensable to your campaign world design and running of your favourite flavour of Dungeons & Dragons.
Tales of the Wolfguard
by Hellwinter Forge of Wonders
Blizzard Vale is the northernmost province of the Empire, conquered with great endeavours centuries ago. It’s a frozen, hostile land with sparse patches of conifers, icy rivers, and lakes. The Wolfguard, an old garrison of soldiers and scouts, watches over the vale and protects the town of Ysvindur from the barbarian Elves and more sinister threats.
Tales of the Wolfguard is fully compatible with Old-School Essentials and most classic game RPGs.
My Take
This is the first publication by Hellwinter Forge of Wonders on Drive-Thru RPG, and it looks like one to grab while the price is so low. It features a map and description of the area, intro adventure, seven mini-dungeons, 13 new monsters, and an ambient soundtrack, plus much more! This sounds like something you can just drop in and add to your campaign world.
Dark Star Violet
by Matthew Tapp
This is a Lore Supplement for any space themed TTRPG, only download if you are fine with just worldbuilding and lore to add to your home games.
The intrepid (and slightly unhinged) cartographers at Mission Control have finally cobbled together a primer on that swirling vortex of cosmic chaos we affectionately call Dark Star Violet. This ain’t your grandma’s space travel brochure, folks! Expect contradictory star charts, survival tips of dubious quality, and enough existential quandaries to make a Grey philosopher weep.
My Take
First up, look at that cover art! Dark Star Violet is a sci-fi RPG adventure that promises to be not your average adventure. If you are into sci-fi and want to run a one-off between fantasy adventures, this could be your ticket. It sounds completely deranged, off-the-wall, unstable, in-your-face, and bizarre – maybe just what the space doctor ordered.
