I thought it might be a good idea to document what I have been up to each week – to let you peeps know, and also for my own reflection.
I have let you know the big projects and small projects that I have been working on previously, but this will let you know how those projects are going, and what progress I make on them. As well as any additional stuff related to the TTRPG hobby.
Purchases
I have been looking at miniature agnostic wargames this last week. Something I can play solo. This is a little odd for me as I have never been super into wargames, but I like the idea of small skirmish games.
I have a short list of games I am looking at, but I ended up buying Deth Wizards by Snarling Badger Studios.
I found out about this game from the playthroughs over at The Tabletop Engineer, who is a great guy with a very cool channel, especially if you love solo table-top games.
I haven’t had a chance to play it yet as I am hobbled from minor foot surgery for the next couple of weeks.
In prepping for these fantasy skirmish wargames I want to play, I was looking around for minis. And stumbled on the idea of buying those big box games that have loads of minis included in them.
Wizards of the Coast released a few of these including Wrath of Ashardalon, Castle Ravenloft, Temple of Elemental Evil, and The Legend of Drizzt.
I was going to grab Castle Ravenloft for the undead minis, but found a cheap version of Wrath of Ashardalon online and grabbed it. The cost per mini worked out to be AU$1.42 each, which included a huge red dragon mini.
Plus I managed to grab a bunch of dungeon tiles and other bits & bobs that I am sure I can use in other games.
Back to TTPRGs, I grabbed a copy of Sandbox Generator – Wizardly Expansion by Atelier Clandestin. It’s a nice little wizard tower and wizard generator for all you D&D solo players.
I was also taken by this old school character sheet for a game called Woodfall, which is free on DriveThruRPG.
Woodfall by Lazy_Litches_Loot itself looks pretty cool too. I also included in my old school sandbox adventures post.
Working On
I have had a bit of time of late, so I started on a few new smaller and larger projects.
I usually have a lot on the go, and like to work on one, and then on another, as I tend to get overwhelmed if I just work on one thing. Which sounds weird, but it’s just how my brain works.
Hex Crawl Procedures
Playing a lot of solo D&D as I am known to do (check out the current play log for my OSE campaign), I wanted to create my own hex crawl features book.
I use Filling in the Blanks & D30 Sandbox Companion currently, but I really want to create my own, so I started this yesterday.
It’s at a pretty early stage, so not much to show. The above table shows how many features and lairs you would likely encounter in a particular grid/hex while exploring.
Filling in the Blanks has 1D6 for all terrains, but I found that a little too much for some terrain types, like deserts.
I will update this as I develop it further.
d12 Monthly Annual
This is what I am working on the most. The art is coming along nicely, and I am busy still editing the final book. Then it will be off to the proof-reader, and then on to the printers.
I have settled on the cover though – it is by Perplexing Ruins, who is a fantastic artist and a great guy.
Issue 40 of d12 Monthly
The latest issue of d12 Monthly – the Halloween 2024 issue – is out and available to download: either the FREE VERSION, or the FULL VERSION via Patreon, my webstore, or over at DriveThruRPG.
You can also get a printed version via Patreon or my webstore.
d12 Monthly Bundles
I have started creating bundles over on DriveThruRPG to make grabbing my zines a little more economical. You will save roughly 20-25% of the price of buying them individually.
I only have the one so far, but I have plans for quite a few more. I made a list of possible bundles.
I will also likely put these on my webstore as well, so you can grab the printed versions in a bundle.
Blog Posts
I have several new blog posts I have completed this past week.
The first is all about my idea for an online D&D dungeon crawl using OSE, which will be one-hour sessions springled throughout each week.
The second is a round-up of smaller projects I am working on currently – some of which I cover in this post as well.
The third is on how D&D will always be a pen-and-paper game at heart, no matter how much technology advances.
The fourth is a deep dive on a new type of tree (sounds odd, I know) for your D&D campaign – the Cave Oak.
And the last is a list of old-school sandbox-style modules/adventures. This list includes old TSR modules that would make great sandbox campaigns, plus some new OSR adventures that will do the same.
Over to You
That’s it from me this past week. What have you been up to?
While You’re Here…
Since 2021 I have been publishing d12 Monthly, a monthly zine, which has a ton of articles for any edition of Dungeons and Dragons.
Printed copies are available in my store. The PDF is available on DriveThruRPG and you can get both, plus support my work, via my Patreon.
I will also be releasing some more products in the near future.
Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or my contact page any time.
